British Cycling affiliation - what it means for you:
Insurance: Members benefit from the third‑party liability and personal accident cover provided via British Cycling, giving protection during club-organised activities.
Safeguarding and standards: The club follows British Cycling’s rider welfare and safeguarding policies, ensuring safer, well-run sessions.
Qualifications and development: Coaches and ride leaders can access British Cycling coach education and development pathways supported by the club.
Event access: Affiliation simplifies entry to British Cycling-sanctioned events and ensures our activities meet national standards.
How to join
Complete the club membership application form (available from Montero Cycling).
Provide emergency contact details and any relevant medical information.
Pay the annual membership fee, which covers club administration and contributes to ride organisation and equipment. A separate British Cycling licence or upgrade may be required for competitive categories.
Attend an induction ride or briefing to be introduced to ride formats, group expectations and safety procedures.
Requirements and expectations
Helmet and basic roadworthy bike required for all rides.
Adherence to the club code of conduct, road etiquette and safety briefings.
British Cycling membership or licence for members who wish to compete in affiliated races; social and training members can remain on club-only membership if not competing (the club will explain the options).
Participation in a short induction for new members to ensure everyone understands group signs, pacing and on-road support.
The fee covers club administration, coaching support and a contribution to ride safety equipment. British Cycling affiliation is included for the club; individual British Cycling licences or upgrades for racing may incur an additional fee. The club provides clear fee breakdowns on application.
